How to File GST/QST Returns Online (Revenu Québec My Account Guide)

Filing your GST/QST return online in Quebec is straightforward with the right tools. Revenu Québec’s My Account for businesses (Mon dossier entreprise) is the primary portal for electronic filing Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to file a GST/QST return online:

Log in to My Account: Visit Revenu Québec’s website and sign in to Mon Dossier for businesses (you’ll need a clicSÉQUR user ID to access it). If you don’t have an account yet, you can register for one using your business details. (Tip: The French interface “Mon dossier entreprise Revenu Québec” offers the same options; an English version is available.)

Navigate to GST/QST filing: Once logged in, select the option to “File GST/HST and QST returns”. Because Quebec administers both taxes together, the system will guide you through a combined filing process. You’ll typically enter your GST and QST figures on a single web form (mirroring what the old FPZ-500-V paper form did).

Enter your tax information: Input the required figures for the reporting period:

Total sales/revenues for the period (excluding taxes).

GST collected on your sales and QST collected on your sales.

GST paid on purchases (ITCs) and QST paid on purchases (ITRs) you are claiming. The system may prompt for net tax calculation automatically (many fields are auto-calculated).

If you had no sales or purchases, you can file a nil return by entering zeros where applicable – this is your “déclaration TPS/TVQ simple” when no activity occurred. Remember, even a zero return must be filed to stay compliant

Review and submit: Double-check all entries for accuracy (mistakes in tax amounts or classifications can cause delays or audits. Once everything is correct, submit the return electronically. The system will confirm receipt and provide a confirmation number or reference.

Make payment (if applicable): If your return shows a balance owing, you can pay it through various methods. The convenient option is to pay directly via the filing interface using a bank payment or financial institution online service, which can handle the payment in the same transaction. Alternatively, you can arrange a payment through your bank (online or in person) using the remittance slip. Note: For any amount owing, ensure payment is made by the due date to avoid interest.

Save proof of filing: My Account lets you download or view a copy of the filed return and confirmation. Save or print this for your records. You can always log back in to view past returns and balances in My Account. If you prefer not to use the full My Account portal, Revenu Québec also offers a clicSÉQUR express filing service – an expedited way to file a GST/QST return online without a full account, using an access code. Additionally, some accounting software packages can integrate with tax filings: for instance, certain programs will generate the required figures and may even file the return for you via e-filing. Always ensure any third-party filing method is authorized and you receive confirmation from Revenu Québec.

Filing through Revenu Québec’s online services is secure and efficient. As long as you have your business number, sales and purchase figures handy, the process mirrors the steps you’d take with CRA in other provinces. The big difference is simply the portal you use. By using the online system, you also get instant confirmation and faster processing of refunds, if any.
